FPL Transfer Planner: Multi-Gameweek Planning with EO & Fixture Ratings
Plan transfers up to 5 gameweeks ahead, with effective ownership, fixture ratings and chip-aware scheduling.
Most FPL managers plan one transfer at a time, the night before deadline. The managers who finish top of their mini-leagues think two or three gameweeks ahead — and chain transfers so they're never blindsided by a fixture swing, a chip window, or a price-change cliff. The FPL Pulse Transfer Planner is built for that second style of play.
What the Transfer Planner does
It's a multi-gameweek workspace. You see your current squad, drag in transfers for each upcoming gameweek, and the planner keeps track of:
- Free transfers, bank balance and the running cost of any hits (-4s).
- The max-3-per-club rule and squad-shape validity as you go.
- Fixture difficulty ratings (FDR) over each planned gameweek.
- Effective ownership relative to your mini-league.
- Captain tier ratings — Shield, Sword and Diamond — for every available captain across the plan.
- Chip windows: when you've scheduled your Bench Boost, Triple Captain, Free Hit or Wildcard.
Captain tiers: Shield, Sword, Diamond
FPL Pulse classifies captain picks into three tiers so you can plan captaincy alongside transfers:
- Shield — the safe template captain. High ownership, decent fixture. You won't fall behind your league if it returns.
- Sword — the aggressive pick. Higher projected ceiling, lower template ownership. Used when you need to gain ground.
- Diamond — the highest expected-value pick when fixture and form align. Often a Sword option that also has a great fixture.
The planner shows each tier for every gameweek in your plan, so you can sequence a Shield captain in a tough week and a Sword in a Double Gameweek.
Why effective ownership belongs in a transfer planner
Raw ownership tells you how many managers own a player. Effective ownership tells you how many managers will effectively benefit from his points after captaincy and bench are accounted for — a 50%-owned, 30%-captained player is closer to 80% EO.
In a mini-league context, EO is what actually matters. If your rival has 80% EO on Haaland and you don't, a Haaland haul costs you twice — once for the points you miss, once for the points he gains. The planner surfaces EO at every step so you can see when you're drifting off-template and decide whether that's a deliberate differential or an accidental gap.
Fixture ratings (FDR) across the plan
Each gameweek shows fixture difficulty for every team — colour-coded green (favourable) through red (tough) — for both attackers and defenders. When you're planning across 3+ gameweeks, you can spot upcoming fixture swings before they happen and transfer in early, capturing price rises along the way.
See the wider fixtures schedule for the whole league context.
Chip-aware scheduling
The planner knows your remaining chips and lets you pin them to specific gameweeks. Plan a Bench Boost? The transfer plan automatically prioritises filling your bench in the gameweeks before it fires. Triple Captain queued for a Double Gameweek? The planner flags whether your captain has a fixture worth tripling.
This is the bit that's hardest to do in a spreadsheet — and where the planner saves the most time.
How to use it well
- Start with a 3-gameweek window. Anything longer gets invalidated by news; anything shorter and you're back to single-week thinking.
- Solve the fixture swing first. Identify the team whose fixtures are turning and plan transfers in a week early, capturing the price rise.
- Layer in chips before you finalise transfers. A Bench Boost changes which bench players you actually need to keep.
- Check EO last. If your plan leaves you off-template on a 70%+ EO player, the planner will tell you — decide if the differential is deliberate.
- Revisit the plan after the press conferences on Friday. Roll forward, don't plan from scratch.

FAQs
- What is the FPL Transfer Planner?
- The FPL Pulse Transfer Planner is a multi-gameweek planning tool. You map out transfers up to 5 gameweeks ahead, see effective ownership against your mini-league, layer in fixture difficulty, and schedule chips around the plan. It's designed for managers who want to think in plans, not single deadlines.
- Is the Transfer Planner free?
- The Transfer Planner is a Pulse Pro feature. Pro is £2.99/month or £24.99/year and includes a 7-day free trial. Free users can still use the single-gameweek wildcard planner and the price-change tracker.
- What is effective ownership and why does it matter?
- Effective ownership (EO) is the share of managers in your mini-league who effectively own a player after accounting for captaincy (captains count double) and bench. EO is the right way to think about template vs differential picks in a mini-league context. The Transfer Planner shows EO for every player across your planned gameweeks so you can spot where you need to match the template and where a differential is safe.
- How many gameweeks ahead can I plan?
- Up to 5 gameweeks. Most managers find 2–3 gameweeks the sweet spot — far enough to plan around fixture swings and chip windows, close enough that injury and rotation news doesn't invalidate the plan.
- Should I hit or roll a transfer?
- The planner flags hit-vs-no-hit decisions explicitly and shows projected point delta. As a rule of thumb: a -4 hit needs to gain you ~4+ projected points to be worth it, but the real value of a hit often comes from chaining transfers — fixing two problems in one week instead of rolling and falling behind on price.
- How is this different from the Wildcard Planner?
- The Wildcard Planner is for one-time, full-squad rebuilds (15 players in, 15 players out). The Transfer Planner is for week-to-week management — 1–2 transfers per gameweek, sequenced across multiple gameweeks with chips in mind. Use Wildcard Planner when a chip is active; use Transfer Planner the rest of the season.
