FPL 2026/27 Changes: New Rules, Bonus Points, Features & Player Prices
The game is live. Here's everything that's new for the 2026/27 season — the scoring tweaks, the new features, the position changes and the full price picture — and what it means for your GW1 squad.
FPL 2026/27 brings a reworked Bonus Points System, live in-play points and mini-league updates, a native price-change predictor, a later score lockdown (9am the day after a gameweek), 11 position changes, and a new price list headlined by a record £15.5m Haaland. And for the first time in nine years, there's no Mohamed Salah.

The Bonus Points System has been reworked
The biggest scoring change is a rebalancing of the Bonus Points System (BPS) — the behind-the-scenes tally that decides who gets the 3, 2 and 1 bonus points in each match. There are two changes:
- A player now earns 1 BPS for every three clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI), rather than 1 BPS for every two.
- Players are no longer penalised for being tackled. The −1 BPS hit that used to apply every time a player was tackled has been scrapped.
Why? Since 2025/26, defensive contribution (DefCon) points already reward defenders and holding midfielders for their defensive work. The old BPS rules double-counted a lot of that, so centre-backs and defensive midfielders were dominating bonus. Softening the CBI weighting tilts bonus back towards goalkeepers, full-backs, attacking midfielders and forwards — the players more likely to be in your captaincy and differential conversations. DefCon itself stays in the game.

The 11 position changes for 2026/27
Position changes matter because a defender who's reclassified as a midfielder keeps clean-sheet-friendly minutes while unlocking extra attacking upside — and a forward who becomes a midfielder picks up clean sheet points and a lower price bracket. The moves to watch:

2026/27 player prices: a record top and softer premiums
With Salah gone, Erling Haaland stands alone at the top on a record £15.5m — the priciest FPL player ever, and the only forward above £9.0m. Bruno Fernandes inherits the premium-midfielder mantle at £12.0m, a hefty £3.0m rise. Below them, several big names have been cut, which changes the squad-building maths.

Prices from the official 2026/27 reveal. Newly promoted teams' defenders all start at £4.0m or less, and there are eight first-choice goalkeepers under £5.0m — plenty of room to fund a £15.5m Haaland.
What it means for your GW1 squad
- The Haaland question is simpler. With no Salah to pair him with, owning Haaland at £15.5m no longer forces an agonising second-premium trade-off — but it's still 15.5% of your budget on one player.
- Attackers get their bonus back. The BPS rework should mean forwards and attacking midfielders convert big performances into bonus more reliably, nudging captaincy value back their way.
- Re-scout the position changes. Midfielders who still defend (Lewis-Skelly, Dorgu) can bank clean sheets and DefCon from a cheaper bracket — classic value if they're nailed.
- Hunt the cut premiums. Isak, Gyökeres and Watkins are all cheaper than a year ago. If the underlying numbers hold, that's where the value sits.
